This course is an introduction to the Spanish language. Students will begin to communicate (through both oral and written means) in Spanish using basic vocabulary and grammar at a novice level of proficiency to socialize, exchange information, and express attitudes and opinions (Communication). Students will also learn about Spanish and Latin American life and culture (Cultures) and will be introduced to the importance of learning Spanish and the role of the Spanish language in the world today. Students will be encouraged to use the language both within and beyond the school setting (Communities), to understand the nature of language through comparisons of Spanish and English (Comparisons), to use Spanish to reinforce other disciplines and acquire information (Connections), and to begin to develop effective strategies for missions and ministry to Spanish-speakers (Christ). This course builds on the linguistic skill base from Spanish I. Students will communicate (through both oral and written means) in Spanish using basic vocabulary and grammar at an intermediate-low level of proficiency to socialize, exchange information, and express attitudes/opinions and feelings/emotions and persuade (Communication). Students will also learn about Spanish and Latin American life and culture (Cultures) and will continue to consider the importance of learning Spanish and the role of the Spanish language in the world today. Students will be encouraged to use the language both within and beyond the school setting (Communities), to understand the nature of language through comparisons of Spanish and English (Comparisons), to use Spanish to reinforce other disciplines and acquire information (Connections), and to begin to develop effective strategies for missions and ministry to Spanish-speakers (Christ). This course builds on the linguistic skill base from Spanish I, II, and III and reviews grammar structures in the context of authentic Spanish and Latin American literature. This course is at an intermediate/advanced level that develops conversational skills, advanced vocabulary, and confidence in the language. Students will communicate (through both oral and written means) in Spanish using vocabulary and grammar at an intermediate-high level of proficiency to socialize, exchange information, express attitudes/opinions and feelings/emotions, and persuade (Communication). Students will also learn about Spanish and Latin American life and culture (Cultures) and will continue to consider the importance of learning Spanish and the role of the Spanish language in the world today. Students will be encouraged to use the language both within and beyond the school setting (Commmunities), to understand the nature of language through comparisons of Spanish and English, (Comparisons), to use Spanish to reinforce other disciplines and acquire information (Connections), and to continue to develop effective strategies for missions and ministry to Spanish-speakers (Christ).
