High School Science

SCI101 - Biology
Prerequisites: 8th Grade Science
Periods per week: 6Credit: 1.0Grade(s): 9
Biology is a study of Gods design as described in the Genesis account of creation. The development of the class follows a traditional course studying biochemistry, genetics, cellular biology, and the traditional six kingdoms of life. An understanding of Gods creation and how it functions will help the student combat the evolutionary thinking of the humanistic world in which we live. The laboratory activities will cause them not only to become familiar with specialized scientific equipment, but cause them to think and make conclusions concerning what they will be observing. SCI201 - Physical Science
Prerequisites: Biology
Periods per week: 5Credit: 1.0Grade(s): 10
This course is an overall study of matter and energy. It is designed to introduce students to fundamental concepts in order to prepare them for upper level laboratory courses of Chemistry and Physics. This course is divided into two basic segments: Introduction to Physics and its Applications and an Introduction to Chemistry.(Text: Physical Science by McLaughlin, Thompson and Zike)
SCI202 - Chemistry
Prerequisites: Biology, Algebra I, Algebra II (previously or concurrently)
Periods per week: 6Credit: 1.0Grade(s): 10,11
Chemistry, a study of God's chemical relationships that He designed, is offered to those students desiring to continue studies beyond high school. It develops the logical thinking skills necessary for the analysis of varying chemical problems. The students will probe more deeply into the structure and interaction of matter in class as well as laboratory activities. (Text: Holt Modern Chemistry by Tzimopoulos)
SCI203 - Astronomy
Prerequisites:
Periods per week: 2 or 3Credit: .5Grade(s): 10-12
SCI301 - Honors Physics
Prerequisites: Chemistry, Algebra I, Algebra II
Periods per week: 6Credit: 1.0Grade(s): 11,12
In this course, keen observations and accuracy in measurement are emphasized in class and laboratory. Students will study energy as related to mechanics, heat, waves, and electricity. (Text: Holt Modern Physics by Trinklein)
SCI401 - AP Environmental Science
Prerequisites: Biology and Chemistry
Periods per week: 6Credit: 1.1Grade(s): 11,12
AP Environmental Science is designed to be equivalent of a one-semester, introductory college course. Students will study the ecological and environmental aspects of God's creation through practical experiences and lessons that are designed to encourage good stewardship of His creation. (Text: Environmental Science by Enger and Smith). Note: Students who take the AP Environmental course are required to take the AP Exam. Cost for taking the AP Exam is approximately $78.
SCI402 - AP Biology
Prerequisites: Biology and Chemistry
Periods per week: 9Credit: 1.0Grade(s): 12
Advanced Placement Biology is an intensive course designed to prepare students for college Science courses. Students will study biochemistry, cellular biology, biological diversity, plant and animal form and function, and ecology. In addition, the students will have a working understanding of creationism and the theory of evolution. Students will learn how to defend their beliefs against a worldly point of view. (Text: Biology by Campbell, Reece and Mitchell) Note: Students who take the AP Biology course are required to take the AP Exam. Cost for taking the AP Exam is approximately $78.
