This course is an introduction to the Spanish language. Students will begin to communicate (through both oral and written means) in Spanish using basic vocabulary and grammar at a novice level of proficiency to socialize, exchange information, and express attitudes and opinions. Students will also learn about Spanish and Latin American life and culture and will be introduced to the importance of learning Spanish and the role of the Spanish language in the world today. Students will be encouraged to use the language both within and beyond the school setting, to understand the nature of language through comparisons of Spanish and English, to use Spanish to reinforce other disciplines,acquire information, and begin to develop effective strategies for missions and ministry to Spanish-speakers.
